The Facing Problems and Challenges

  • Natural wear and tear coexist with man-made destruction.

    • The wood was damaged by moisture and insect infestation; the stone was weathered and eroded.

    • Some villagers modified the structure themselves, destroying its original appearance.

  • The tendency toward commercialization has led to the simplification and replacement of traditional carving decorations, resulting in the loss of traditional craftsmanship.

  • There is a generational gap among the inheritors.

    • Young people are reluctant to engage in the complicated and low-paying craft of hand carving, so this craftsmanship is on the verge of being lost.
